Speakers in the main streets of towns and cities ring out with Christmas carols. As passers-by walk under a blanket of lights tinkling from one side of streets and squares to the other. The long, bright tinsel falls from the tree, from the star to the roots. While we continue traveling from fair to fair to help you shine as Christmas does in towns and cities.
We landed at Barajas Airport to attend the thirty-fifth edition of the CNC (Congreso Nacional de Cirugía) at the Hotel Meliá Castilla in the Tetuán district of Madrid.
Once again at Barajas, we boarded the plane and flew back to Barcelona, because L'Hospitalet de Llobregat has been hosting a cultural event called ‘Festival de Curtmetratges de L'Hospitalet’ for the last 19 years. Smart Room Barcelona participates in the production of the gala of this festival, which gives visibility to the creative and talented work of young filmmakers who participate every year and compete for prizes and awards.
Our travels through Germany begin. Our first stop is at the Messe Düsseldorf fair to build our designs at the MEDICA event, which generates interactions of companies related to medical imaging, laboratory technology, diagnostics, health informatics, mobile health and physiotherapy/orthopaedic technology and medical consumables.
Between all these events, we try to spend time with the team, to take care of the beautiful relationship that unites us. These are moments when we disconnect from everything to connect with the present and enjoy the streets of the cities, the Christmas markets (of which there are many at this time of year) and the laughter and good atmosphere.
The next city, known for its large number of annual trade fairs and for having the largest exhibition centre in the world, was Hannover. The cold has welcomed us, but it has not been able to stop our desire to give shape to those stand designs that you have asked us for EUROTIER.
On the banks of the river Main and with a beautiful skyline, we travelled to the last German city in this month of November: Frankfurt. There, we have built our customised stands at Messe Frankfurt for the FIE (Food Ingredients Europe) event.
Madrid, Bilbao and Seville put the finishing touch to this month of November with SIMO (Salón Internacional de Tecnología e Innovación Educativa at IFEMA) and LABCLIN (Congreso Nacional del Laboratorio Clínico at the Palacio de Congresos y de la Música) in the first two cities, respectively, and REDGDPS (Red de Grupos de Estudio de la Diabetes en Atención Primaria de la Salud at the Barceló Sevilla Convention Center) and AEPCC (Asociación Española de Patología Cervical y Colposcopia at FIBES), in the last one.
With Christmas approaching, we would like to share with you a Catalan tradition that revolves around a character we call ‘Tió de Nadal’. It will sound a bit strange to those of you who have never heard of it before, so we ask you to go back to your childhood and recover that mentality and illusion that we all had when we were children. You need to believe in magic to understand this tradition.
The ‘Tió de Nadal’ is a piece of the trunk of a tree that is magical. Right at the beginning of Advent, on the first of December, food (usually fruit or fruit skins) is left every night under the blanket with which it is covered to protect it from the cold of winter. On Christmas Eve (24th December), the children of the house meet around the ‘Tió’ and in unison sing traditional songs for this ritual. At the same time, they hit it with sticks to make it defecate presents and sweets under the blanket. The visible end of the trunk is usually decorated with a ‘barretina’ (the typical Catalan hat) and a smiling face. Nowadays, moreover, the tradition has developed considerably, and what used to consist of an appearance of the magic trunk at home has now become a family trip to the mountains to find it among the trees and bushes of the forest.
The family gets together and becomes more united with each step, until Christmas Eve and the tradition of the ‘Tió de Nadal’ is celebrated.
