Recycled Island is a project that makes us reflect about the abuse in the use of plastics. This is a problem that will only end by changing consumer habits. But what can be done with the tons of plastic waste that we have generated along the last decades and which are floating out there?
We recently discovered an interesting idea: a floating park has been developed on the Maas River, in Rotterdam. Hexagonal blocks were generated with plastic waste, which was recycled by “The Recycled Island” Foundation. They were responsible for the installation of “passive litter traps” along the river, which captured the raw material for the project, as well as cleaning the environment.
Recycled Island has many benefits, besides the positive impact of recycling. The platforms offer a habitat for plants and small species, such as birds, snails, worms, beetles or even fish.
